Why should I choose Freedom?

Finding the right people to help when you need it can be difficult. You’re in a place of emotional vulnerability and perhaps it’s not easy to think clearly all the time.

Maybe you aren’t even sure that you want to get help but you feel you should or you are under pressure from people around you to do that. Maybe you see asking for help as a weakness or something to be ashamed of.

At Freedom, we understand that. Here, it’s all about what you want. If you’re not sure what you want, we can talk you through the options and leave it there. If you are absolutely sure what you want, then we can absolutely help you get there.

We know that everyone is different. What works for one person, won’t work for everyone. We don’t assume that we know best, we don’t assume that our knowledge and experience means we know you and what you want or need. We will listen to you.

We work hard to ensure that our practices never get tired or old. We invest in learning and keep up to date with new developments and practices in the field, because we know that the world is constantly changing and evolving and so are the people in it. By investing in learning, we stay energised and invested in our clients too.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a talking therapy that can be used to help a person overcome any life difficulty they are experiencing.

It’s by no means the only type of talking therapy that is helpful but it is arguably one of the most widely used. It has a strong evidence base which means that a lot of research has been done to test it’s effectiveness. When carried out properly, CBT can be used to help a person overcome depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, eating disorders and many more things.

How CBT works is by helping a person to understand why they feel the way they do, why they do the things that they do, what their thoughts are and how this can affect them physically.

By understanding their unique perspective and way of operating in the world, a person can soon learn how to change things (their relationship with their thoughts, how they respond to them, how they act each day etc). Through this change, a person can start to feel differently, work through, and overcome their challenges.

What’s it like to see a therapist?

If you’ve never tried to get help in the past, seeking treatment can sometimes feel intimidating.

What’s it going to be like? What will I have to do? Will they judge me? What are they going to ask me? What if I can’t do it? How can it possibly help? How long will it last? Do you do detox? What about my family?

With all of these questions buzzing around in your head, it’s no surprise that getting help can make you worry, possibly to the point that you don’t even try.

In this post, we will try and answer some of those questions for you:

1. What’s it going to be like?

Essentially, to begin with, it’s just talking. Talking about your experiences, how you got to this point in your life and what you want to get from treatment. Then we work out a plan with you for how to get there.

2. What will I have to do?

This depends on you. There will be times when it might be of benefit to you to take action and do things to make changes in your life and we will support you in this process. Before all of that though, it all begins with just talking.

3. Will they judge me?

Absolutely not! We are not here to make a judgement on you or your life.

4. What are they going to ask me?

We will talk with you about your experiences, how they’ve affected you, what helps and doesn’t help you and what you want to get from therapy. Together we will work out the best plan of treatment for you and this will be based on you and guided by you.

5. What if I can’t do it?

We will support you as much as possible. Ups and downs are part of the process.

6. How can it possibly help?

You’d be surprised! There are so many ways that therapy can help a person, you just have to give it a try.

7. How long will it last?

Again, that very much depends on the individual. Our goal is to get you to a point in your life whereby you don’t need us and the sooner we can get you there, the better.

8. Do you do detox?

If you are struggling with addiction, drugs or alcohol, we happily support you with the detox process. We will work in collaboration with your doctor, psychiatrist or nurse to make the way to a life without drugs easier for you.

9. Can you help my family?

Yes of course! We can provide therapy for loved ones, partners, carers, parents, friends etc.
